THE STATE OF OUR PROFESSION

LIKE MANY OF US, I'VE SPENT A LOT OF TIME at home this year. It has given me time to think, to write and to just be. For me, both the time home this year and the time on the road last year were astonishing, and I have a melange of people that I miss seeing. Among too many to name include Carl, the doorman at the boutique hotel at Farragut Square who would hand me my key when I arrived after midnight. Closer to home for this audience, last year's Seattle meeting seems to have taken place in a different lifetime, if not a different planet.
