摘要

The underlying cause of primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is unknown in most cases, which generally are referred to as idiopathic. Primary ovarian insufficiency is associated with biological reproductive aging and encompasses 3 stages: occult, biochemical, and overt. Telomeres-the caps of chromosomes-play an essential role in protecting chromosome structure during meiosis and meiosis ensuring accurate duplication. Telomere length is a proven biomarker for biological aging and is positively correlated with reproductive lifespan in women. It has been shown to be involved in age-related disorders such as cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, and cancers.
