European Bioinformatics Institute ups data storage

The European Bioinformatics Institute(EMBL-EBI) has signed a contract with datacentre provider Kao Data to store its biological data.Cambridgeshire-based EMBL-EBI is part of European Molecular Biology Laboratory,Europe's flagship laboratory for life sciences.The deal with Harlow-based Kao Data will allow it to fill its requirements for local and low latency data storage.Steven Newhouse,Head of Technical Services at EMBL-EBI,said:”The biological data we store and share through our data resources are used by life science researchers all over the world to power new discoveries.”EMBL-EBI will initially use 1.5MW of capacity within the first technology suite of Kao Data London One,the first of four carrier neutral datacentres on the Kao Data Campus in Harlow.It will then have the opportunity to scale into a new development as future demands require.
