摘要

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) con-tribRutes a significant burden of disease with approximately 1 in 10 Queensland adults showing signs of the disease (Australian Health Survey 2011-12). The progression of CKD can in some cases be delayed by making lifestyle changes. The Queensland Health Advancing Kidney Care 2026 Program supports active management of CKD. Previously there has been limited capacity to provide pre-ventative education in the CKD population, however a current initiative is being piloted to target nutrition education in the CKD stage 3 setting. Aim: To improve access to renal nutrition education in a regional setting and to determine nutrition knowledge gains in a CKD stage 3 population. Methods: Consumer consultation has been undertaken via questionnaire and indicated strong interest in group education, with 63% of those surveyed responding positively. Based on additional information gathered in this survey, a group education session has been developed, covering renal nutrition related topics. A two-hour group education session delivered by an APD is currently being piloted for three months. After attending the group, participants can request an individual consultation with a dietitian. Results: Data will be collected on referrals into the groups, attendance, the number of people who requested individual consultations and nutrition-related knowledge change. Knowledge change will be determined by a pre and post questionnaire delivered at the time of the education session. Conclusions: This pilot will be used to guide the further development of this service and potential for additional chronic disease dietetic interventions.
