This article gives an overview of general factors that a psychoanalyst working in the field of healthcare should know about suicidal tendencies. These include the frequency of suicidal behavior, the demographic distribution of suicides and suicidal behavior, and certain risk factors and warning signals that should be included in the reflection about patients.
