Dwindling gas output to boost Lng imports

Argentina is due to resort to brisker LNG imports to avoid curtailing gas to indus- tries during the southern hemisphere winter, as domestic gas production contin- ues to fall and Bolivian pipeline imports slow. The country’s energy secretariat has estimated a supply shortfall of 4.57bn m~3 in May-September, peaking at about 45mn m~3/d in June-July. With little scope to ramp up Bolivian imports, Argentina has had little alternative but to bolster its purchases of LNG. The energy secretariat frst requested the reopening of the 3.7mn t/yr Escobar import terminal, the country’s sole LNG facility, which was forced to shut down last year following a lawsuit from a nearby resident.
