European premium Biomass: prices stable

Prices for premium wood pellets delivered to northern Italy held fat in the week following the €1/t decline in bulk price last week, but heating demand continued to rise in southern Europe, depleting stocks. Prices for EN plus-certifed A1 grade bagged and bulk wood pellets were assessed at €199/t and €145/t, respectively, for delivery into northern Italy. Despite increased heating demand, stock levels will need to decrease before buying activity on the bagged market increases, participants said. But the closure of hotels and ski resorts as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic has caused some concerns over demand in the week with a signifcant decrease in pellet consumption expected in Alpine regions.
