Effect of varying doses of ocimum gratissimum (scent leaf) leaf extract on feacal worm egg count of West African dwarf goats

Ocimum gratissimum (scent leaf) leaf extract reduced feacal worm egg count in growing West African dwarf goats A lot of phytogenic plants have been assessed by scientists. This is necessitated by the need to find alternative to antibiotics which usagehas been resticted and/or outrightly banned in some countries. Phytogenics are added to feed to improve animal performance and this has been the focus of several studies in recent years. An example of such plant is Ocimum gratissmum. Ocimum gratissimumis a valuable medicinal plant that is wide spread in West Africa. Researchers agree that this plant has several medicinal values that depend on certain active chemical substances. These active chemical substances are believed to have physiological impact on the human and animal body. Therefore the aim of this study is to assess the effect of varying doses of Ocimum gratissimum extract on faecal worm egg count of West African dwarf goats.
