摘要

In response to the Journal of Chemical Education call for papers for this Special Issue on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect in Chemistry Education Research and Practice,1 reviewers have begun to undertake their contributions to the peer-review process. Here, we would like to further articulate some expectations for authors and the corresponding review criteria. Authors may find this helpful to consider as they finalize their manuscripts, while reviewers will likely find the guidance helpful in shaping reviews that identify specific issues with feasible actions that authors can address in revision. Individuals who agree to review manuscripts intended for the Special Issue will be asked to identify the scope and content examples from the call for papers that align with the submitted manuscript. (See the list in Table 1.) In addition, reviewers will be asked to comment on the extent to which the manuscript: 1. Describes literature, frameworks, methodologies, and evidence appropriate for broadening participation and diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect (DEIR) work. In addition to traditional quantitative measures, evidence may be literature-based, grounded in an institutional context or problem being investigated, observational, or otherwise qualitative. 2. Promotes or advances DEIR practices and/or research in chemistry. 3. Provides a counter narrative (asset-based, constructive perspective, etc.) to that which has been used to marginalize the targeted population. 4. Provides strategies for mitigating the threat of systemic exclusionary and discriminatory practices.
