摘要

The famously paradoxical passage "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" was originally meant to describe the French Revolution, but it'll also do nicely to sum up the state of the plastics industry-in Canada and beyond-during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Simply put, the global crisis has changed the conversation around much of our industry, in particular single-use plastics. Consumer habits have altered due to the highly infectious nature of COVID-19, resulting in a huge increase in demand for single-use plastic bags in grocery stores and other retail outlets. And while there had been a trend towards purchasing loose produce to cut down on plastic packaging, many consumers are now opting to purchase pre-packaged fruit and vegetables out of fear of contamination.
