Shale gas exploitation to be slow in Asia

Singapore-Asia Pacific may see small-scale production of shale gas and natural gas liq- uids after five years, but any real impact as that experienced in the US can be expected only in the next decade. Complex geology, water shortage, strong state participants, resource nationalism and weak property rights, make developing shale resources in Asia costlier than conventional energy, restricting foreign and private sector involvement and likely to limit the pace of the industry's growth, legal and industry experts said recently.
