Apache worker in Egypt killed in apparent carjacking

Dubai—An employee working for the US’ Apache Corp. has been killed in an apparent carjacking in Egypt’s Western Desert, a company spokesman said Thursday. The attack comes after activist Apache shareholder Jana Partners urged the company to sell off its international assets to become a pure-play US producer. Jana last month disclosed a stake worth $1 billion in Apache. Apache already agreed in August last year to sell a 33% stake in its Egyptian assets to China’s Sinopec for $3.1 billion partly to reduce its exposure to Egypt’s recent political upheaval.
