More often than not, Atlantic Canada conjures up images of Anne of Green Gables (a best-selling children’s novel of the early 1900s), king-sized lobsters, red potatoes and a shipping industry, rather than a fledging hydrocarbons producer. But if recent pronouncements by Statoil, Shell, BP and Husky Energy are any indication, the twin provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador (NFL) and Nova Scotia could potentially be a ‘new frontier’ for oil production in the nation.
