Washington—US oil refiners were “very encouraged” by a purported leaked document from the Environmental Protection Agency indicating a potential cut in the 2014 biofuels blending mandate, but the industry still seeks a complete repeal of the law, the head of American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers said Thursday. “This is a band aid,” AFPM President and CEO Charles Drevna told Platts in an interview, referring to the document, in which the EPA says it may propose a 2014 Renewable Fuel Standard that calls for 15.21 billion gallons of biofuels to be blended in the US transportation fuel supply, down from 16.55 billion gallons in the 2013 mandate.
