London—In a bid to support rebels fighting against the Syrian regime, EU foreign ministers have agreed to ease oil sanctions in the country—allowing EU companies to resume imports of crude oil and products from Syria on a case-by-case basis. The move is expected to be difficult to implement, but it could mean the return of Syrian crude exports to the EU, which, before the imposition of sanctions in September 2011, had been running at around 150,000 b/d.
