Ukraine to forgo Russian gas to year-end

Kiev-Ukraine can get by without any further imports of Russian gas this year, energy minis- ter Eduard Stavytskiy said Wednesday, confirm- ing reports that Ukraine had stopped imports from its giant eastern neighbor at the end of last week in an ongoing row over pricing. Stavytskiy stressed though that gas transit to Europe would not be affected by the move. "We believe that we can do without buy- ing Russian gas until the end of the year," Stavytskiy told reporters in Kiev.
