Market forces scupper Alberta Voyageur upgrader plan

Vancouver-Canadian oil sands powerhouse Suncor Energy and its French partner Total have done the expected and abandoned their Voyageur upgrader, as changing market conditions and rising capital costs chal- lenged the plan's economics. The companies will shift their attention instead to two bitumen mines in the Alber- ta oil sands region, while Suncor will put greater emphasis on its array of thermal- recovery projects.
