Moscow-Russia’s largest crude producer Rosneft signed two major deals with India’s Essar Oil Wednesday, significantly strengthening Russian-Indian cooperation in the oil and gas sector, and marking the latest sign that Russian energy companies are looking eastward amid difficult relations with Western partners. Rosneft and other Russian energy companies have stepped up attempts to cement cooperation with Asian partners in all aspects of oil and gas development, since last year when European and North American governments introduced sanctions against Russia restricting Russian producers’ access to Western capital markets and technology.
