US oil rig count falls, forecast to rebound by end-2016

New York—The US land oil rig count fell by 16 to 578 over the past week, according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count released Friday, as the US oil patch continued to be pared down in an oversupplied, low oil price market. NYMEX December crude settled up 53 cents at $46.59/b, down more than a half from a year ago. From October 31 last year the oil rig count has fallen from 1,582 to its lowest level since June 2010.
