BASF Plans Stepwise Capacity Increase Of MDI Production at Geismar Plants

Geismar— BASF has begun engineering for a stepwise capacity increase of its methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) production facilities at its Verbund site in Geismar, La., to around 600,000 t/y from 300,000 t/y currently. "In subsequent steps, which will be implemented in alignment with business development, the MDI precursor units in Geismar will be expanded accordingly," said Ste-fano Pigozzi, president of the Monomers Division. "The usage of latest proprietary technologies will ensure best-in-class productivity and energy efficiency," he added.
