Israel Rebukes Tamar Partners

Israeli Energy Minister Uzi Landau has rebuked the partners in the 9 Tcf offshore Tamar gas field for agreeing a deal with Russia's Gazprom before Tel Aviv officially signs off on a proposed export gas policy (IOD Feb.27'13). In a letter to the field's shareholders Landau said: "I see it fit to reiterate and make it clear that the Tamar holding is intended to supply the needs of the Israeli market. … In addition, on the basis of the Tzemach Committee report, natural gas exports are subject to prior approval," according to Israeli daily Globes. The Tzemach report is a set of recommendations to the government from the Energy Ministry, favoring gas exports (IOD Aug.31'12).
