The Chinese government wants to see as many as 5 million electric vehicles (EVs) on China's roads by 2020--around 14 times the current number--but Chinese energy experts still expect no major impact on the country's gasoline consumption in the short term. China's target was to have sold 500,000 EVs by the end of last year, and the government recently reiterated its plan to increase that number tenfold in the 13th Five-Year Plan covering 2016-20.
