Low US natgas prices could curb 2020 production

The boom in US natural gas output could fizzle next year as producers in the Appalachian region rein in drilling because of low prices. Key producers are already planning to pare investment in the mammoth Marcellus shale in Pennsylvania and the surrounding states. Advancements in that field, such as improvements in efficiency and well design, helped producers boost profits and propel domestic output to new highs. But the momentum gained over the past year could slow or even stop, idling the engine behind US gas output growth.
