Stuck ship backs up New Orleans freight traffic

A coal vessel ran aground on the lower Mississippi river early today and was still snarling traffic around New Orleans as of publication time. The UK-flagged deep-draft vessel Anglo Alexandria was grounded this morning at mile marker 3.5 near Cubit’s Gap, Louisiana. It was later refloated. However, the river remains blocked while the US Coast Guard searches for debris on the riverbed. The Coast Guard said it did not have a timeline to reopen the waterway.
