Excerpts from annual report presented at the 34th Annual General Meeting

Dear members, During the year 2013-14, Chemi-. cal Industries Association has been actively involved in taking up various issues faced by the chemical and allied industries with the appropriate authorities. Some of the important events and activities are highlighted below: The Association conducted the following seminars/meetings: A number of stakeholders representing CIA member industries, faculty and student members from colleges/ universities participated in the deliberations of these seminars/meetings and derived benefits. The distilleries in Tamil Nadu have been suffering for want of adequate quantity of molasses for use as feedstock due to the export of this commodity. CIA submitted an appeal to the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in June 2013 not to permit sues like molasses sales; need to urgently implement the natural gas pipeline project by GAIL; price increase of natural gas; review of green norms; closure of fertiliser unit of FACT-Kerala; difficulties encountered by member industries in importing industrial chemicals through Chennai Port; need to promote algae bio-fuel products; suspension of manufacture of phenol at Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd. (HOCL), Kochi; enhancement export of cane molasses either outside the State or outside the country to safeguard the interest of these distilleries. The appeal was favourably considered and export of molasses was stopped.
