After Shanghai No.1 Reagent Plant took the lead in putting on stream an acetic acid unit using the ethanol-acetaldehyde process in 1953,many acetic acid units using different processes were constructed in China.Shanghai Wujing Chemical Industrial Co.introduced a 100 000 t/a acetic acid unit using the low-pressure methanol carboxylation process from Britain in 1996 and the acetic acid industry in China began a new phase.The first 100 000 t/a acetic acid unit using the low-pressure methanol carboxylation process developed by China itself started production in Jiangsu Sopo Group Corporation in 1997.
