Decis Trap has been developed by Bayer CropScience and its partner SEDQ (Sociedad Espafiola de Desarrollos Quimicos) to control Ceratitis capitata. Mass trapping with Deris Trap aims to attract and kill adult flies in order to reduce the insect damageon fruits. Extension to Rhagoletis cerasi and Drosophila suzukti (Spotted wing drosophila, SWD) has been made by the development of target specific lures, which keep progeny larvae below the economic threshold during the period in which the crop is susceptible. The novel ready-to-use "mass-trapping" and fully closed system is a three part device with a colored plastic trap (yellow for R. cerasi and red for D. suzuMi), a dispenser releasing a target specific and persistent attractant or blend of attractants and an internal surface coated with the pyrethroid, deltamethrin. It is an environmental and end-user safe device. The economic threshold in many European countries is 0% of cherry fruits infested by R. cerasi (Belien et al., 2013; Papadopoulos et al., 2017). The one-off introduction of Deris Trap Cerasi at the density of 100 traps/ha and positioned at the earliest cherry variety color change, drastically reduces the damage level of R. cerasi in large-scale trials even in conditions of the highestpest pressure. The by-catch and impact on the beneficial arthropod population is negligibly small. Mass trapping with Deris Trap installs a reliable base line protection and enables reducing the number of spray applications while maintaining season-longprotection against A cerasi damage in typical multi-cultivar cherry orchards. D. suzukii is considered a major pest with a broad host range of cultivated fruits but generally appearing first in the season on cherries with potentially disastrous damage. Although the practical implementation of mass trapping for SWD control should be further investigated regarding to optimal spatial and temporal positioning of the traps, large-scale field trials so far indicate significant pest reduction on fruits with anadded value to chemical reference schedules.
