Economic Analysis of Fine Rice Production under Subtropical Agro-Chmatic Zone of Jammu Region of Jammu and Kashmir State

Rice, the most important cereal crop grown in India covers an area of 45 million hectares with 90 million tones production, 2000 kg/ha as its productivity and is consumed by 65 per cent of the total population of the country (Mishra, 2004). It has gotone of its types popularly known as basmati which is slender, aromatic, long grain rice with a nutty taste, delicate texture that grows best in the northern parts of India. In 2001-02, its production in India was about 0.6 million tonnes (milled basis)which was about 1 per cent of the total rice production. This crop accounts for about 3-5 per cent of the world trade and is the fastest growing exports items from India in recent years.
