Weekly Us coal train loadings up 13.4% on week, down 2.2% on year: stB

US coal train loadings saw a weekly increase in the week ended January 3, but the Powder River Basin was the only region to see a year-on-year increase, Surface Transportation Board data showed Friday. Data filed to the STB by the four major Class I railroads — CSX, Union Pacific, BNSF and Norfolk Southern — show US loadings averaged 81 trains/day, up 13.4% from 71.4 trains/day in the prior week but down 2.2% from 82.8 trains/day averaged in the year-ago week. The total loadings were the second lowest for the corresponding week in over five years.
