London—Coking coal remained among strategic commodities in the EU’s latest critical raw materials list published for 2020, helping support output at coal mines in Poland and the Czech Republic. The EU seeks to develop sustainable financing for mining and launch research and innovation on waste processing, advanced materials and substitution of critical raw materials, the European Commission said in a Sept. 3 document. Other commodities on the EU’s critical list include battery metals and rare earths, while thermal coal and iron ore are not included.
