CNPC pulls out of Iran gas project

CNPC (Beijing), one of the original members of a consortium, including Total and a local Iranian firm, in the massive South Pars gas project in Iran, has pulled out of the project, the country's state media Press TV reports, citing Reuters. The move follows the withdrawal by Total, originally a majority owner in the project. Last month, Iran's Petroleum Minister, Bijan Zangeneh said that CNPC replaced Total in the multibillion-dollar gas project following Total's withdrawal from Iran due to the return of US sanctions.
