Celanese’s second-quarter net income, EPS up on robust pricing

Celanese reports net income of $345 million for the second quarter, up 48% year over year (YOY) on “robust pricing” in all businesses. Sales totaled $1.844 billion, up 22% YOY. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) totaled $2.90, up 62% YOY and well above the average analyst estimate of $2.24, as compiled by Thomson Reuters (New York). Chairman and CEO Mark Rohr revised the company's full-year earnings guidance upward to a 41% increase in adjusted earnings. "In engineered materials, the project pipeline model continues to advance by custom-matching our full breadth of polymer solutions to individual customer needs with increasing efficiency," says Mark Rohr, chairman and CEO. “In the acetyl chain, a continuation of tightened supply and demand dynamics has presented new opportunities to apply our business model.”
