FPC licenses PE, PP technologies for Point Comfort plants

Formosa Plastics Corp. USA (FPC; Livingston, New Jersey) says it has licensed process technologies from ExxonMobil, Univation, and Japan Polypropylene (JPP) for the three polyolefn plants now under construction at the company’s Point Comfort, Texas, facility. The new 400,000-metric tons/year low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant will employ ExxonMobil’s new tubular plant technology. The new 400,000-metric tons/year dual-purpose polyethylene (PE) plant will use Univation Technologies’ Unipol process to make both high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). The new 250,000-metric tons/year polypropylene (PP) plant will employ technology licensed from JPP. FPC is a member of the Formosa Plastics Group (FPG; Taipei, Taiwan). Another FPG company, Formosa Petrochemical Corp. (FPCC; Taipei), last month purchased a 2,400-acre site at St. James Parish, Louisiana, to build a $9.4-billion "Sunshine Project", which will include two ethane crackers and derivative facilities.
