N. America chemical rail down 8.1% YOY

During the week ended 11 April, chemical railcar trafc in North America decreased 8.1% year over year (YOY), refecting the growing economic toll of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19) pandemic. Volume totaled 41,934 carloads, down 4.5% from the previous week, according to data released on 15 April by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). On a four-week basis, volume decreased 1.4% from 2019 and 3.7% from 2018 (chart). For the year to date, chemical railcar trafc in North America is up 0.6% from 2019 and down 1.2% from 2018.
