EU chemical output down 0.7% in 2018, but prices rose 3.7%

Production of chemicals in the EU declined by 0.7% in 2018 compared with 2017, according to the latest Chemical Trends Report from Cefc. The second half of 2018 was weaker than the frst, with output declining in the third and fourth quarters by 1.2% and 3.5%, respectively, versus the corresponding periods in 2017. The sector most afected by the decline was basic chemicals, Cefc says. Producer prices were higher than in the previous year, rising by 3.7% in 2018.
