摘要

A solvothermal approach was used to synthesize single-phase 1TaC-3HfC solid solution powders for the first time. The starting materials were TaCl5 and HfCl4, with carbon introduced by phenolic resin. Powder X-ray diffraction results showed the 1TaC-3HfC solid solution could be prepared with the minimum temperature at 2000 degrees C for 1 h. Using a combination of characterization techniques, it has been demonstrated that the phase pure powders with crystallite sizes of similar to 50 nm, the composition of Ta, Hf, and C elements were near stoichiometric and homogeneousely distributed in the particles. The crystal lattice fringe spacing measured in the grain was consistent well with the calculated theoretical value, and the SAED pattern reveals a single-crystalline nature. Ultimately, using the synthesized powder, monolithic 1TaC-3HfC ceramics with high relative density (97%) were obtained after the densification at 2100 degrees C for 60 min at a pressure of 70 MPa by hot pressing.
