This is a good time to import poultry products from the United States. First, prices of U.S. poultry products are declining after a period of lower-than-average production and reduced supplies that resulted in higher domestic prices beginning in late2003. Second, many U.S. processors have higher-than-normal stocks of frozen dark meat and are ready to sell. Third, the U.S. dollar is declining in value against key currencies. Finally, most bans prohibiting importation of U.S. poultry related to an avian influenza outbreak have been lifted because U.S. officials have eliminated the disease and U.S. poultry is safe.
