The significance and use of ASTM F606/F606M fastener test methods to the fastener industry

In 1974, a group of dedicated individuals from the fastener industry approached the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) regarding the need to begin a standards committee dedicated specifically for fasteners. Thus, the F16 Fastener Committee was founded. There were other committees who specified materials, wire products, coatings and test procedures. As universal as these standards are, there are special characteristics unique to fastener products. Sub-committees were formed to develop standards for ferrous and non-ferrous products, coatings and small fasteners. The first sub-committee formed was the F16.01 Fastener Test Methods.
