The four-residue reverse turn-Met~56-Gly-Asp-Glu~59-in the Clostridium beijerinckii flavodoxin provides the majority of the critical interactions with the isoalloxazine ring of the flavin mononucleotide (FMN) cofactor that contribute to the binding and the differential stabilization of its three redox states.
