Response to letter regarding 'prospective, randomized in vivo comparison of a dual-active antiseptic versus two alcohol-only waterless antiseptics for surgical hand antisepsis'
The importance of neutralization in studies involving antimicrobial products, especially where chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) is concerned, has been the topic of numerous publications, and the authors strongly agree that it is a key parameter that must be addressed in designing a valid study. Please refer to our second paragraph in the "Bacterial enumeration methods" section and the subsequent section, "Evaluation of neutralization efficacy and toxicity," of our article for a description of the methods used to ensure that the CHG activity was stopped as soon as feasible.
