The attempt to quantitatively estimate the share of the energy of a positive column of glow discharge used for heating the cathode (product) was made. Using the technique described in this paper, some components of the discharge energy balance can be distinguished. It was established that the discharge positive column plasma played on important role in heating the cathode. The energy of the plasma consumed for heating can reach 0.3 0.1 of the total energy used in heating.
