The process of electroslag surfacing with one strip is studied. It is shown that compared to arc surfacing, ESS yields an improvement in efficiency up to 40...45 kg/h and reduction of the share of base metal in the deposited metal to 5...10 %.With the increase of the strip width and welding current, the magnetic blow becomes stronger, the natural convective flow of the slag and mass transfer in the weld pool are disturbed, and the formation of the deposited beads deteriorates. An explanationfor this phenomenon is given. Surfacing is performed with magnetic control in order to neutralize the adverse influence of the magnetic blow. The advantages and disadvantages of the process of ESS with one strip are described.
