Today's run-out systems are designed according to the "double-length principle" associated with a movable hot saw or employing a shorter lead-out table with a flying saw. Depending on the extruded length, such systems could be up to 120-m long. Profile cooling systems are arranged in the press axis, starting immediately downstream of the press platen. They give the required material properties by providing defined cooling rates within a certain temperature interval. For reaching the specified strength, elongation, corrosion resistance and surface properties, profile cooling, as a heat-treatment procedure, is as important as the homogenising of the cast logs, the preheating of the billets upstream of the extrusion press or the artificial ageing of the profiles.
