A new approach to determining criteria for evaluating the efficiency of agricultural production.

The traditional criterion for evaluating the efficiency of agricultural production is maximization of output with minimization of expenditure of resources. However, this formulation is no longer suitable since it does not permit practical evaluationof the level of utilization of available resources in toto because of the incommensurability of all production factors. A new approach is proposed, based on maximization of profit per unit of agricultural land, with minimum expenditure. The proposal isillustrated by graphs incorporating the elements of price, quantity, marginal and average costs and marginal and average revenue. The method is considered to enable enterprises to determine the optimum output of agricultural produce to ensure the maximumprofit.
