New pharmacological properties of the raw material of Ledum palustre L. of the Siberian flora and possibilities for its complex utilization

A review is given of phytochemical and pharmacological studies on the essential oils and phenolic complex of Siberian L. palustre. Marked intraspecific variations were observed in the chemical composition of the essential oil and the stability of the phenolic complex. A qualitative composition was established and the contents of coumarins, flavonoids and phenolic acids were determined. The possibility of multiple utilization of L. palustre raw material was demonstrated and justified. Results indicate the possibility of making antiinflammatory and reparative drugs from a 40% ethanol extract of leafy shoots of L. palustre (both Siberian and European) and from the oilcake obtained after steam distillation of essential oil.
