Modern tomato hybrids suitable for harvesting fruits in trusses.

Tomato hybrids suitable for harvesting the fruits in trusses were developed and first appeared during 1992-93 in the Netherlands. The characteristics of such hybrids, currently imported from western Europe into Russia, and the necessity of developing Russian counterparts are discussed. Preliminary breeding work and development of Russian truss tomato hybrids during 1996-97 by the breeding and seed production firm "Gavrish" is reported. The newly bred hybrids F1 Samara, F1 Intuitsiya, F1 Refleks andF1 Vladimir are briefly described, and the main cultivation techniques are outlined.
