On methods of age determination in desert lizards: Natural longevity in toad-headed lizards (Phrynocephalus) (Reptilia, Agamidae). [Russian]

The comparison of the results on skeletochronological determination of age in Phrynocephalus melanurus presented by Smirina and Anan'eva (2001) with the published ones and the authors' recent data on the longevity of different toad-lizards in field revealed a striking inconsistency: The long-term periods of estivation typical for desert lizards may be a possible reason for these differences resulting in additional bone marks.
