The invention describes the first method of molecular sex determination applicable to a wide range of anguimorph lizard species. It includes the specific primers necessary for this method and information on which region of the vertebrate genome from this, if necessary, other useful primers can be designed. The invention is used in breeding practice (private breeders, zoos) for the Anguimorpha group species of lizards , in which the sex of an individual cannot be determined by external features.
