A recent discussion topic among members of the Canadian-based online Maternity Care Discussion Group (MCDG) was about what hospitals can do to keep mothers and babies together as much as possible after a cesar-ean birth. I was impressed to see that the protocols and practices some hospitals have introduced seem to be so sensible and straightforward. It is no wonder that more hospitals are beginning to adopt them and offer the option of a ' 'gentle'' birth to the increasing numbers of women who have a cesarean.
