摘要

The need for ash Melting furnaces has grown in effective ash disposal from MSWincinerator. We took part in joint researchwith Yokohama City to determine the meltingcharacteristics of mixed fly and bottom ash inplasma arc furnaces. Our system was foundpracticable in 60 days of continuous operation.Development showed that our furnace could makeslag usable heavy metals by condensing intosecondary fly ash and decomposing more than 99%of dioxins at the furnace outlet. Analysis wasdeveloped for the design to simulate the flowand thermal field in the furnace by measuringslag temperature. Many refractories weretested to evaluate the durability of material,and a suitable practical refractory was chosen.The first plasma arc furnace with a capacityof 40t/d is now under construction in Iwaki City.
